Wanted the Brodick Bunkhouse? Where to stay in Brodick instead
The bunkhouse on Alma Road appears to have closed to the public. If you wanted a cheap bed a few minutes from the Arran ferry, here is what you can book in Brodick now, by price and by how far you walk from the boat.
Appears closed, October 2026
What happened to the Brodick Bunkhouse?
As far as we can find, it no longer takes guests. Checked 20 to 26 October 2026:
- its old online booking link returns an error;
- VisitArran, the island’s tourism body, no longer lists it, and Hostelworld lists no Brodick hostel;
- the newest guest review we found on Tripadvisor is from 2020;
- the 2024 sale listing for the Douglas Hotel next door described “The Bunkhouse” as the hotel’s staff accommodation.
This website used to be the bunkhouse’s own. It is now an independent guide with no link to the bunkhouse, and it takes no bookings. All the evidence, with sources.
Checked October 2026 at the sources named on each page.

Where to stay instead, by price and walk from the ferry

The bunkhouse sold a bunk in a shared room a few minutes from the boat. Nothing in Brodick sells exactly that to one person today. These are the nearest things, cheapest first. Walking times are measured along the roads from the ferry terminal at an easy pace; a footpath can make some of them shorter.
£ is the cheapest way to sleep, a pitch or a dorm bed. ££ is a room in a guest house or a flat. £££ is a hotel with a bar, restaurant or pool. We print a price only where the business published one; for the others, the links below show live prices for your dates.
Two more, for particular cases. Groups of eight or more can hire Shore Lodge, the National Trust for Scotland’s bunkhouse in the Brodick Castle grounds, as a whole. And the Douglas Hotel by the pier, which ran the bunkhouse’s reception, was due to close over autumn and winter 2026-27 for refurbishment under its new owners, reopening in spring 2027.
If everything in Brodick is full, Lamlash is the next village south on the 323 bus. Where to stay on Arran compares the villages, and hostels and bunkhouses on Arran covers every cheap bed on the island.
