Brodick Bunkhouse: has it closed? What we found

Short version: the Brodick Bunkhouse appears to have closed to the public. In October 2026 we found no working way to book it, no current listing, and no guest review newer than 2020. Here is the evidence, dated, and where to stay instead.

Checked October 2026 at the sources named on the page.

All of this was checked between 20 and 26 October 2026.

This websitebrodickbunkhouse.co.uk used to be the bunkhouse’s own site. It is now this independent guide, with no connection to the bunkhouse, the Douglas Hotel or Buzzworks-

Put together, the bunkhouse appears to have closed to the public: no way to book a bed in October 2026, gone from the island’s own accommodation lists, no guest reviews for years, and described in writing in 2024 as staff housing. We have not seen a closure announcement, and none of this rules out the building taking guests again one day.

If you already have a booking, or a question about it

The bunkhouse’s check-in help came from the Douglas Hotel reception, according to the bunkhouse’s own old FAQ. The Douglas Hotel publishes its contact details on its website: stay@thedouglashotel.co.uk and 01770 302968. Bear in mind the hotel’s new owners planned to close it over autumn and winter 2026-27 for refurbishment.

Older listings on other websites still give this site’s address and an email at this domain for bunkhouse bookings. Those now reach this guide, not the bunkhouse, and we cannot book, change or cancel anything. Please do not send card details or booking requests here. The guide’s own address, for questions about these pages, is info@brodickbunkhouse.co.uk.

What the bunkhouse was

For anyone who stayed there, or is trying to work out what they booked years ago, this is how the bunkhouse described itself when it was trading:

  • On Alma Road, Brodick, less than five minutes’ walk from the ferry, opened in January 2016.
  • Four mixed rooms, each sleeping six in three-tier bunks. No private rooms, no lockers, no drying room.
  • A bunk light, plug and USB socket at each bed, free wifi, linen included.
  • Self-service check-in from 3 pm with door codes sent by email; check-out by 10 am.
  • No kitchen beyond a kettle, a sink and an “honesty” snack shelf, no alcohol on the premises, guests over 18 only, a maximum of six people per online booking.

That is a description of a past product, not a promise of what you would find today.

Where to sleep instead

For one or two people who wanted the bunkhouse’s price and location, the realistic options in October 2026 were:

  1. A B&B room in Brodick. More expensive per person than a bunk, but bookable and a short walk from the pier. Belvedere Guest House is on Alma Road itself; B&Bs and hotels in Brodick lists the rest.
  2. Glen Rosa Campsite, a basic site at the foot of Glen Rosa, about 3 km on foot from the pier. VisitArran lists it as open all year. There is no booking: you pay into an honesty box.
  3. Lochranza Youth Hostel, at the north end of the island on the 324 bus, open to individual guests from April to October.

Groups of eight or more have a fourth option close to Alma Road: Shore Lodge, the National Trust for Scotland’s bunkhouse in the Brodick Castle grounds, let as a whole. All of these are compared in hostels and bunkhouses on Arran.

Questions people ask

Is the Brodick Bunkhouse open?
It appears to have closed to the public. Checked in October 2026: the old online booking link returned an error, the newest Tripadvisor review we found was from 2020, VisitArran’s hostels and bunkhouses page did not list it, and the Douglas Hotel’s 2024 sale particulars described The Bunkhouse as the hotel’s staff accommodation.
How do I book the Brodick Bunkhouse?
We found no booking channel that works. This website, which used to be the bunkhouse’s, is now an independent guide and cannot take bookings. If you hold a booking or want to ask about the building, the business that ran its reception was the Douglas Hotel next door.
Who owns the Brodick Bunkhouse?
It was run alongside the Douglas Hotel, whose reception handled check-in help. In July 2026 the Buzzworks group announced it was buying the Douglas Hotel. The announcement did not mention the bunkhouse, so we cannot say who owns it now.
How much did the Brodick Bunkhouse cost?
An older guest review on Tripadvisor mentions £25 a night per person. We have no current price, because we found no current way to book.
Is there anything like it in Brodick now?
Not for a single traveller. Shore Lodge, a bunkhouse in the Brodick Castle grounds, is let only as a whole to groups (minimum charge for eight). For one or two people, the cheapest beds are a B&B room in the village, a pitch at Glen Rosa Campsite, or a dorm bed at Lochranza Youth Hostel in season.
